Magnetic fridge toy buying guide
It seems there isn't much to watch out for. They're just something magnets that you stick on the refrigerator.
Yet?
But when you take a closer look there are a few important things.
Age
Pieces that are too small are dangerous for children under 3. Pay close attention to this because you don't want them to swallow a magnet.
In addition, some sets may be safe, but release the plates when they get wet. Like with the Melissa & Doug and Xylolin play sets.
Magnet
Do you just want them to play with it, or should the magnets also be able to hold something up, such as a drawing or shopping list.
Quercetti and SpriteGru magnets, for example, are very educational, but they can only hold up a thin piece of paper.
The magnets from 4M are a lot stronger and can stick paint paper or birthday cards to the fridge.
Replayability
Are the magnets fun for a while, or do they come back to them over and over again? Games where they can think or lose their creativity work best.
The Xylolin construction set, for example, is a good example of a set that they can also use for imaginative play.

Top 5 Magnetic Fridge Toys Reviewed
Quercetti Number magnets
- Fun for small children to organize and bigger ones to practice sums
- Cheerful colors really appealed to my son (3)
- In the end it's just numbers
Is it time for your little one to learn the numbers, and do you want to do it in the most fun way possible? The Magnetic figures 26 pieces is the ideal toy!
With this set you get 26 numbers in different colors. The numbers are magnetic and made of plastic. Learn to count and recognize the numbers with this super fun toy set!
There are not only numbers, but also calculation symbols such as plus, minus, divided by, fraction.
This way it can be fun for school children to practice with.

Please note that the parts are designed small and are therefore not suitable for small children who are still inclined to put toys in their mouth.
SpriteGru Letters
- Very nice animal letters
- Safe ink and thought of everything
- Magnets could be better
- Are not too firm
Just like with the Quercetti numbers, you can also lay the foundation for the alphabet with 26 letters. It's especially nice that they are such cute animals.
Each animal represents a letter, such as the A for Alligator. It is in English, so children with different language backgrounds will not learn in their own language.
I like that because we teach my son English from an early age.
In other languages the letters are still letters of course to learn to recognize them and to make words.
They have thought of everything, such as safe vegetable ink coloring and soft edges.
The quality is not too good, for example, the magnets are letting go of some letters in the meantime. But it has also been played with a lot.
The magnets could also be a bit better. They also do not hold thick paper on the refrigerator.
Still a very nice set that will look perfect on any fridge.
Melissa & Doug 20 Wooden Animals
- Very nice images
- Magnets are pretty strong
- Sustainable wood
- Pictures are not made of wood and are less durable
20 nice wooden animals to stick on basically all magnetic surfaces.
This set is slightly more expensive, but that is also due to the sustainable wood and the beautiful case that you get.
This is truly a set built to last.
It is suitable for children from 2 to 4 years old.
What else to say about it. They are animals that can stick.
Melissa & Doug plants a lot of trees to make their products sustainable. That is very important to good toys to continue producing.
Some animals are a bit small, so it's better to put them aside when your 2-year-old plays with them and you can't pay attention all the time.
It is also a pity that the pictures are glued on. They are made of paper or cardboard so they come off quite easily. Although I've really only seen it with repeated mouthing.
The magnets are a bit stronger than those of Quercetti and SpriteGru so you can easily hang things with them.
Xylolin Construction Set
- Lots of magnets
- With cars as construction site parts they can recreate a scene
- Paper pictures don't last long
In this set you get 50 magnetic construction vehicles, tools, and other things that you find on the construction site.
There is also a booklet where you can stick them on, of course in construction theme.
The booklet is not so much, not very sturdy. But sticking the magnets on the fridge and inventing all kinds of fun adventures on the construction site is great fun.
You can then save them in the book. Moving from the book to the fridge every time is already fun, and most children are busy with that for half an hour.
This can really keep your child busy for a while while you cook.
Xylolin is a brand that copies many toys, such as wooden marble runs and building blocks. But they do it themselves with quality.
The plates come off a bit easily (picking), especially when they are wet (drool). So don't expect them to last through their entire toddlerhood.
If you don't mind that, this is a very nice set that you can buy for little money.
4M Magnetic Mini Tile Art
- Nice creative set
- Some fridge magnets that are also fun for school children
- When it's gone it's gone, you can only paint it once
What? Do you hang the children's artwork with magnets? MY children's magnets ARE magnets!
If your kids like to paint, this is a very nice set. Also nice for a party so that everyone can take their own magnet with them at the end.
The 4M Magnetic Mini Tile Art lets them create their own magnetic tiles.
It is a bit fiddly because the tiles are only 2 inches by 2 inches (5×5 cm). This makes it suitable from 8 years.
Actually one of the few refrigerator toy sets that are also fun for school children, because the most is to keep toddlers busy.
The magnets are also very strong so they can hold some thicker paper as well.
Conclusion
There are a ton of things you can stick on the fridge, but these sets are the nicest we've found.
Whether you like creativity, educational magnets, or pretend play. There's something for everyone.
