It has many features that make it fun to play with, but safety should always be a priority when choosing which sand to buy.

This article takes a closer look at the safety of kinetic sand.

Safe kinetic sand brands

This may seem a little weird to speak of the quality and security of sand, but in this case the quality may differ across different brands.

It's better to trust verified manufacturers and I took that one too in this kinetic sand review.

The point is that when you buy goods from a verified manufacturer:

  1. Firstly, you can be sure that the sand will last a long time, will not dry up in a week or stick to hands.
  2. And secondly, it is also better to trust a verified manufacturer in safety issues. They value their reputation and have all the certificates confirming the origin of their products.

Particular attention should be paid to the problem of accidental ingestion (yes, accidental or less accidental eating of the sand).

Unlike 'living' sand that can dissolve in water, the kinetic sand has the same physical properties as regular sand.

That's why you shouldn't eat it, but it's safe in small amounts.

Just like normal sand (without your kids getting worms because that comes from outside sand).

Questions about the safety of kinetic sand

Still not entirely convinced of its safety kinetic sand? I answer some more frequently asked questions about this toy.

Is kinetic sand allergy friendly?

Quality kinetic sand consists of 98% pure sand and 2% non-toxic binding material.

The sand is dust- and allergy-free, anti-bacterial and gluten-free.

It is therefore safe for use by children and the sand therefore has no hazardous properties.

Nevertheless, it remains important as a parent to keep an eye on your children's handling of the sand in the right way.

Do bacteria stay in kinetic sand?

Kinetic sand is anti-bacterial and in principle you never have to replace it. It will also not dry out and you can easily clean it up.

If you purchase a small amount of sand, it may be necessary to buy additional sand after six months because it can be lost here and there.

Is kinetic sand dangerous when swallowed?

If your child has accidentally taken a bite of sand, there is no need to worry. It is non-toxic and contains no hazardous substances.

If it is more than just a snack, it is wise to visit the doctor to be sure.

If you want to make edible kinetic sand, you can read here how to do that.

Is Kinetic Sand Bad for Dogs?

Yes, kinetic sand can be very bad and dangerous for dogs.

It is non-toxic, but will most likely cause an obstruction if more than a tablespoon is ingested.

Is kinetic sand harmful to cats?

Yes, as is the case with dogs, kinetic sand is also harmful to cats for the same reasons.

Is there metal in kinetic sand?

There is no metal in kinetic sand. The main ingredient is sand plus non-toxic binding material.

Sometimes dyes are also added. All substances are not carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic.
