You can also build an igloo. And you have a sturdy stone house with a skylight above and a small door. As you can see, you can build all of these houses from the examples and still have a lot left over to do additional things.
One of the nice things here is that all of these building blocks are really useful for any kind of home. A disadvantage is that these houses are too small for real ones Legodolls to live in. So this is a really good first set to start building from Lego, but it is not complete Lego-city. For that you might have to build a bigger house. So I think this is a good starter set to introduce your child to building Legohouses, and then you can expand and use these bricks later as the basic building blocks that everyone needs.
It is indicated for children from 4 years old, but that is more because of the small pieces and the risk of them putting them in their mouths than because of the building itself, because the examples are very, very easy to build. So if you go to Lego and want to buy a first set, then this is one of the easiest to make. They are normal Lego bricks, not Duplo, but I understand the confusion because it is in the same age group. I think if you move them from Duplo to the first Lego-set, this could be the right choice.
The doors and windows snap into place and won't open, though the small drawbridge does open, albeit vertically.
