What is the Stick-O Fishing Game?

The Stick-O fishing game is a building set for children from 18 months in an underwater theme. With the included magnetic fishing rod, it is also a fishing game.

There are magnetic rods that, together with the balls and extra parts, can form different fish bodies, jellyfish, seahorses and an octopus.

There is a sample booklet with different ways to use up the set completely and it offers enough space to make your own creations.

These magnetic bars also come from Magformers, the brand with the high quality magnetic tiles.

The same neodymium magnets are used, and the rotating magnet system is also incorporated.

This makes the magnet system very sturdy and ensures that all rods can click together.

Smartmax is a brand with similar magnet rods, and some rods repel each other.

What makes the Stick-O fishing game fun?

Of course the magnetic fishing rod for great fishing!

The way you can easily create your own animals makes a magnetic fishing game like this a lot more fun than other fishing games I've seen.

Other fishing games are really just wooden fishing rods and some wooden pieces with a magnet in them.

This set really lets your child build an underwater world so that they can also get creative.

The building and the game are fun from about 2 years old to about 5 years old.

The shapes can be used on other Stick-O parts, but also on the Smartmax building sets.

This also gives it a lot of flexibility to reuse when your kids get a little older.

Stick-O fishing game cons

26 parts seems like a lot, but many of them are also accessories. Building with it is therefore very limited.

As with so many magnetic toys, it gets more fun the more you get, and then it gets pretty pricey in the end.

Still, there's a lot you can do with it. Enough to be fun for a while and then see if you want to buy more of Stick-O.

Stick-O fishing game alternatives

smart max

Clicking these together is a lot easier than the tiles from Magformers. This makes the toy really suitable from 1 year old as SmartMax says.

Stick-O is for smaller children than Smartmax and offers more shapes in addition to fun building bars and balls.

As a result, you get less real building material for your money and the quality of the Smartmax magnets is slightly higher.

It's nice, those shapes. Especially for the toddlers and toddlers among us.

For example, in the fishing game you also get a fishing rod, but the best are the fins and tails to make fish with.

It's more about creating a fantasy world than unleashing your creativity on structures like cubes and castles, so for me the Smartmax Starter Set (reviewed here) a piece of more educational magnet toy.

Geomag MagiCube

Best magnetic toys for your toddler

GeomagMagiCube Paw Patrol

This is only fun to buy when they just turn 1 so they can use it for a while. At 3 years old it's not really fun anymore.

If your child is younger than 2 years old, you may want the MagiCube by Geomag (reviewed here) to consider.

It's only 3 blocks so they can't build that much with it, but it's more suitable for 1 to 2 years.

Completely safe plastic and large blocks, and they can still do puzzles with them.

Conclusion

Stick-O is one of the best magnetic toy sets for children aged 1,5 to 4 years. After that, a different kind of magnet toy may be more suitable.
